Every season reveals a different bloom. The roots remain the same.
I’ve realized something in my 40s.
I feel more like myself than I ever have.
Not because I finally have everything figured out. If anything, I think I’ve become more comfortable admitting how much I don’t know.
But somewhere along the way, I gave myself permission to be curious again.
Curious about what I love.
Curious about what brings me joy.
Curious about who I am outside of my responsibilities, my titles, and the expectations I spent years placing on myself.
For a long time, so much of my identity was connected to what I needed to do.
Be responsible.
Be dependable.
Work hard.
Take care of people.
Keep going.
There was always something that needed my attention. Someone who needed something from me. Another goal to reach. Another problem to solve.
And I became very good at being that version of myself.
But I think there comes a point when you start wondering who you are underneath everything you’ve learned to carry.
Not because you want to abandon the life you’ve built.
But because you realize there may still be parts of you waiting to be discovered.
So I started following my curiosity.
It led me to dancing.
I walked into classes not really knowing what I was doing and somehow found something that made me feel completely present. I learned steps and rhythms, but I also learned how uncomfortable it can feel to be new at something again.
And how freeing it is to do it anyway.
Curiosity led me to traveling.
To seeing places I had never seen. To walking unfamiliar streets. To realizing how much I love experiencing the world beyond the routines I know so well.
It led me back to writing.
To sitting with my thoughts long enough to understand them. To putting words around experiences I had carried quietly. To recognizing that sometimes I don’t fully understand what I feel until I write it down.
It led me to weekend markets.
To music.
To friendships.
To saying yes to things I might have once talked myself out of.
And yes…even to fashion.
I know that one might seem less significant.
But I’ve realized that what I wear has very little to do with trends and everything to do with how I want to feel.
Some days, that’s a blazer and heels.
Some days, it’s cowboy boots.
Sometimes, it’s a dress that makes me feel adventurous.
Sometimes, it’s leggings, messy hair, and no makeup.
They’re all real.
They’re all me.
Maybe that’s one of the most important things I’ve learned.
We spend so much time trying to define ourselves.
I am this kind of person.
I do these kinds of things.
I belong here.
I don’t belong there.
But what if we allowed ourselves to be more curious about who we are?
What if changing our minds didn’t mean we were inconsistent?
What if discovering something new about ourselves didn’t mean we had lost who we used to be?
What if growth wasn’t about becoming someone completely different?
Maybe it’s simply about uncovering more of who we’ve always been.
That is what The Wildflower Within means to me.
Wildflowers don’t ask permission to bloom.
They don’t all bloom at the same time.
They don’t all look the same.
They grow through changing seasons and unexpected conditions. Sometimes they appear in places no one intended for them to grow at all.
And somehow, they still become what they were meant to become.
I think people are a little like that.
Every season of my life has revealed something different about me.
Some seasons taught me strength.
Some taught me survival.
Some taught me leadership.
Some taught me grief.
Some taught me how deeply I can love.
And this season?
This season is teaching me curiosity.
It’s teaching me that self-discovery doesn’t have an age limit.
That joy is worth paying attention to.
That trying something new doesn’t require an explanation.
That I am allowed to explore the parts of myself I haven’t met yet.
I don’t think I’m becoming someone new.
I think I’m becoming more of who I’ve always been.
And maybe that’s the point.
To keep growing.
To keep exploring.
To keep blooming.
To keep becoming.
Because every season reveals a different bloom.
The roots remain the same. 🌼
